From: Compassion and Love
It’s hard to have compassion for difficult people. Their actions, which are often cruel, callous, or selfish, don’t exactly scream suffering. Yet, these vices are in themselves a very personal form of pain. Take the ‘so-called’ friend who’s just said something vicious. Their words are terrible. But they also feel terrible, too, and it’s important to see that.
